where do shops selling collectible actions figure, trading cards and video game, etc. get their merchandise?

trying to open a small shop in my town, but no idea how to actually get the merchandise. Me and my friend think that opening a shop in our town selling things like posters, xbox/ps3/wii video games, collectible action figures, trading card games (pokemon. magic, etc) and table top RPG games and accessories (minis, books, etc.) would be a great idea, and could do pretty good business aswell. The only thing is we’ve never ran a business like this before, and we have no idea how to actually get our stock and merchandise. We’ve googled randon sites and none so far seem suitable, nor trustworthy. Any tips or websites to go to, or anything at all to help us understand and figure out how to get these products?

Usually they get them from the manufacturer, or from a wholesaler/distributor. I’m fairly friendly with a local comic/games shop owner, and I know that he gets his merchandise from a wholesaler, who puts out a catalog for his customers. I tell the comic shop guy “Hey, I want three Cosmic Wimpout dice sets”, and he puts in a call to the distributor. Some manufacturers will deal with individual shop owners, and give them a wholesale price, and others won’t, so you’ll have to go through a wholesaler.

I’d start by just writing (email or snailmail) the manufacturers of the merchandise that you want to carry. For instance, Bandai for action figures, Wizards of the Coast for CCGs and various pen & paper game accessories, Chessex and other dice makers, etc. Ask them if they sell wholesale, or if they sell to distributors. I know that at least some of the dice makers sell dice displays as well as just the dice. So start by Googling the manufacturers and contacting them. Go to various cons, and ask about becoming a retail outlet for various items.

I have to tell you, though, that most small businesses fail within the first five years or so. And mostly, it’s because they’re undercapitalized. That is, the entrepeneurs didn’t have enough money to keep the business running. You have to assume that the business will bleed money for the first couple of years, then it will still lose money for a couple of years, but not as quickly, and sometimes it will break even at the fifth year. This means that you need to have enough money to run the business AND live on for at least five years, or that you can get enough credit to pay those bills. Every cent you make during those first years needs to be plowed back into the business. And you have to realize that a game shop doesn’t sell anything that anyone really needs. I mean, I love my comics and games, but when I’m going through a financial pinch, this is one of the first areas that I eliminate. So don’t go into business thinking that you’re going to be able to live on it immediately.

The first real-time strategy game to be in any of Major League Gaming’s tournaments, Starcraft II won’t disappoint. A booming success in Korea, both its predecessor and the newly released sequel are created by the venerable Blizzard. It has excellent support for competitive gameplay and this will be no different.

Major League Gaming has provided tournaments for many different games, but also many of the earlier mentioned games’ iterations. For example, Halo: Combat Evolved and Halo 2 were also part of the MLG tournaments. As was Call of Duty Modern Warfare and Super Smash Bros. Melee. Blizzard’s first MLG game, World of Warcraft, was also part of the lineup. Other games part of the MLG circuit was Tom Clancy’s Rainbow Six Vegas and the sequel, Gears of War and Shadowrun. Next year is likely to see further sequels, such as Call of Duty Black Ops.

Demon’s Souls is one heck of a game. If you’ve ever played it you’ll know how difficult yet brilliant it is. One of the aspects that seems to frustrate and confuse a lot of people is that of world tendency. What makes matters worse for most people is that since the game is not out in Europe yet (at the time of writing) you have to import it from Asia. This means that the game’s manual (which most likely explains white and black world tendency) is all in a language most of us can’t understand.

There are 5 worlds in the game, and each one starts at a ‘neutral’ tendency. Depending on what you do in each world, you can shift its tendency towards either white or black (think of it like a pendulum). For example, killing a boss will shift it slightly to white, whereas killing a friendly character will shift it to black (think of it as ‘light’ and ‘dark’ ala Star Wars). Dying in ‘body form’ will shift it to black, and killing a ‘black demon’ will shift it significantly to white.

So what does all this mean? Well, when you get a level’s tendency to either pure white or pure black (‘pure’ means it cannot go any further) it certain things will appear on the level that weren’t there before, such as extra bosses and special items and weapons. In fact, to get the best armour and weaponry you’ll need to manipulate each world’s tendency to both black and white.

The Xbox 360 Slim Model

As you might know, Microsoft have released a brand new slim version of the Xbox 360. This console had been in planning for quite a while, and it was not expected to be launched as fast as it has been.

The very first thing that you see with this console is that it’s not loads slimmer, it’s just more compact than the older version. The actual base unit is roughly an inch and a half smaller in size, and it has a much smoother plastic case on it. The shiny black look is very cool, but grubby fingerprints are all over it if you touch it, just like the old PS3 models. The good news is that you can wipe them off easily, however they will come back!

The power button and DVD drive button are now touch sensitive, which is the same as the PS3 console. It’s a cool little change as it saves the console pointless wear and tear from jabbing the buttons repeatedly. The power supply brick, as some call it, is now smaller than the old one, by around a couple of inches. It also weighs a bit less than the original block. This may or may not be important to you, but it is a change that I found.

There are also a few more hardware improvements with this new system. The hard drive that comes with the slim console is much smaller than the older model. The previous hard drive was a long block that snapped into the console (and would sometimes fall off) whereas the new one is a very small disk style hard drive that is harder to take off. You can transfer data from one console to another with a transfer cable, which is fairly cheap to purchase.

The Xbox 360 slim has five USB ports, whereas the old console had just three. If you’re somebody that like to connect lots of things in (things such as wired controllers, an Xbox Camera, headset or anything else) then there’s lots of space to add them on. You can also use the new USB hard drives that Microsoft released last year, which you will require as the new model doesn’t actually have any slots for memory cards.

Now onto one of this big problems that hit lots of the original Xbox 360 models – the hated “red ring of death.” Old systems commonly overheated, stopping the system completely and causing the three red lights to flash on the front. The Xbox 360 slim tackles this issue with a new Valhalla chip set, which lets the system run a lot quieter than earlier models. The system can get rather hot at the top of the vent, so be careful when touching it. If the system ends up overheating it will automatically shut down to save itself, which avoids the RROD. The only problem with this is that it’s rather annoying if you’re half way through an intensive game, however look at the bright side, you just saved your console. Or should I say, your console saved itself!

The new systems contain built in wifi, whereas the older systems required a special connecter which was rather expensive to be able to connect wirelessly. Connecting to your wireless network is very straight forward now.

All in all the Xbox 360 slim console is nice, as it’s smaller and efficient than the older 360 models. And there’s the bonus of no more RROD! It’s not perfect, but it’s slowly getting there.

Need help to fix my xbox 360 headset by soldering?

I had an original xbox 360 headset and like many of you know, they crap out not too long after you get them…Well with mine, the jack at the end snapped off. My headset still “works” fine minus the plug, so I cant use it. I just bought a cheapo headset that is a POS for sure. I was wondering if I could cut off the connecter from the POS mic and solder it to the end of my original xbox 360 headset. I dont see why not, but before I go cutting everything apart I want some kind of base as to what I should do.
